Since mid-1970s until now, a billion of personal computers were sold worldwide, given the increasing number of users.
From all the personal computers that were sold in this period, 75 percent were intended for professional and working purposes, while the other 25 percent were sold for personal or home purposes. About 81.5 percent of personal computer sold had been desktop computers, 16.4 percent of the sales corresponds to laptops and the other 2.1 percent were servers.
The distribution of the billion of personal computers shipped is the following: 38.8 percent (about 394 million) of them were shipped to United States, Europe has received 25 percent, and the 11.7 percent had gone to Asia-Pacific region.
The second billion of personal computers was expected be sold by 2008. Although notebooks were introduced on 2007 into the market, 14 million netbooks were sold on 2008. If make a small review of the amount of sold computers among 2002 and 2008, we can see that the billion sales projected was achieved.
